Lamy iPad Stylus Release: A New Era for Handwriting

In 2024, Lamy is making a bold statement: the future of handwriting is here. The renowned German manufacturer of premium writing instruments is intensifying its commitment to handwriting as a key skill for lifelong learning. This summer, Lamy will release its first stylus for the iPad, the LAMY safari note+. By the end of the year, a limited edition "LAMY x Harry Potter" collection will follow, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery. These initiatives mark a significant expansion of Lamy's digital writing portfolio and a strategic move to engage new audiences.

The Lamy iPad Stylus Release: A Game Changer

The LAMY safari note+ is set to revolutionize digital writing. This stylus is based on the classic LAMY safari, the world's best-selling fountain pen known for its ergonomic design and reliable performance. The new stylus aims to bring the same writing comfort to the digital realm, specifically for iPad users. With over 260 million iPads in use globally and Apple holding more than 50% of the tablet market share, the LAMY safari note+ is poised to meet a significant demand.

"This is a forward-looking step that will significantly increase the share of digital writing instruments in Lamy's overall sales," says CEO Steffen Rübke. "By expanding the digital writing segment, we are creating the conditions to carry handwriting as a learning and creative skill into the future."

Innovative Features and Technology

The LAMY safari note+ is not just another stylus. It incorporates advanced technology to enhance the digital writing experience. Features such as pressure sensitivity, precision, and compatibility with various electronic devices are at the forefront of its design. These innovations are made possible through Lamy's collaboration with Mitsubishi Pencil, which brings extensive expertise in research and development, including the use of artificial intelligence to continually improve digital writing tools.

"We are excited to offer a writing tool for the iPad by mid-year," says Rübke. "With this product expansion, ergonomic writing with Lamy will soon be possible on almost all common tablets, such as those from Apple with iOS or Samsung with EMR."

Educational Initiatives and Partnerships

Lamy's commitment to handwriting extends beyond product innovation. The company is actively involved in educational initiatives to promote handwriting and drawing skills, especially among children. Since autumn 2023, Lamy has been the official education partner of the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf. Together, they aim to support people of all ages in developing their creativity.

In December, the jointly conceived workshop series "beyond lines - Lamy creative sessions" began at the Palast Studio. These workshops encourage participants to explore various creative techniques, from journaling to comic drawing, design, and calligraphy. The series will continue throughout the year, featuring artists like Tim Berresheim, who will share his techniques during his exhibition "Neue alte Welt" on April 7, 2024.

Supporting Young Artists

Lamy is also a sponsor of the annual art competition DIE KLEINE, organized by the Kunstpalast. This competition invites elementary school classes from Düsseldorf to submit creative contributions on a specific theme, with the best works being exhibited at the Kunstpalast. In 2024, the theme is sports.

"We believe that writing and drawing by hand are valuable skills, especially in digital times," says Rübke. "They train concentration and help us understand what we have learned sustainably. Through handwriting, we develop creative ideas and find solutions that ultimately help us better understand and shape the world."

Future Competence Handwriting: School Projects

In 2024, Lamy is expanding its educational initiatives with a project focused on the future competence of handwriting. In collaboration with the Berlin-based company Forever Day One, experts in developing learning and experience spaces, Lamy is creating a six-day workshop series for students in grades 8 to 10. The project aims to give young people the space to discover their own messages and develop the courage to express their feelings, thoughts, ideas, and personalities.

A pilot project is currently underway at a school in Hamburg, with plans to extend the series to five more schools across Germany starting in March 2024. Based on the themes and experiences of the workshop series, Lamy and Forever Day One will develop materials for teachers and educators, providing practical impulses for innovative teaching.

Collaborating with Experts

Lamy has a long-standing tradition of collaborating with experts to support young people in acquiring handwriting skills and expressing themselves individually. This approach is evident in the development of products like the LAMY abc and the LAMY safari, where Lamy has always sought close cooperation with professionals from fields such as pedagogy, linguistics, psychology, and occupational therapy.
